  i have often wondered if there is any actual archealogical evidence that jesus existed other than the claims of the bible.. i don't want to go down the route of 'you can't prove he didn't exist' as this is tiresome.

  or 'well pontius pilate existed we found a stone with his name on so it follows jesus existed!

  Are you including the hundreds of variants of Christianity that existed at that time and had wildly different beliefs as well? Or just the ones you agree with?

  We know what many of them taught. Not just the ones that I agree with. You're trying to pick on my words again, like you do on all the threads I post on about religion. I made the comment that we know what the early church fathers taught in response to the claim that we only know what later Christianity taught. We know what the Gnostics taught. And we know what the others taught. We have very early writings from them. So comprehensive, in fact, that we can reconstruct almost the entire NT just based on the writings of the early church fathers alone.

  If you accept one on "most", youy must also accept the other.

  Why? I'd expect more from you. You accept everything that most scholars think? You don't examine the evidence yourself and come to a conclusion that makes the most sense? You just blindly follow what most scholars say? Or do you instead examine what most scholars think, examine what other scholars think, and settle on a conclusion that makes the most sense at the time?

  I didn't say I believe Jesus existed just because most scholars said so. And I don't have to believe what most scholars say about every thing. I think it was you that criticized me for quoting something that John Macarthur said because he also believes in young earth creationism. I either had to accept everything he said, or reject it all. It doesn't seem quite fair since I'm sure you don't do that either.

  Aside from Roman taunts and martyrdoms, we only know what the later church taught.

  No, we know what the early church taught. We have writings from several early church fathers, some of whom may have known the disciples.

  Uh....The claims against the Ossuary were shown to be insufficient in the courts. Lemaire was declared innocent of any type of forgery on the ossuary.

  It hasn't yet been fully authenticated, but the evidence was insufficient to prove that it was forged. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Maybe the box contained James' bones, maybe it didn't.

  However, even skeptics don't deny that Jesus actually existed. There is debate about who he was and if he said what is credited to Him, but no serious scholar doubts the existence of Jesus.

  During this particular radio broadcast, Dawkins claimed that most Christians did not know what the first book of the New Testament is. He was trying to make the case that most Christians blindly follow and do not know what they believe exactly or why they believe it.

  After making the claim that most Christians did not know that Matthew was the first book of the NT, the dialogue continued this way:

  Fraser: Richard, if I said to you what is the full title of The Origin Of Species, I’m sure you could tell me that.

  Dawkins: Yes I could.

  Fraser: Go on then.

  Dawkins: On the Origin of Species…Uh…With, oh, God, On the Origin of Species. There is a sub-title with respect to the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life.

  I almost feel bad for him. How embarassing. I don't think this illustrates ANYTHING like the article seems to imply. I just thought it was funny. Almost like watching someone fall down into a puddle of mud. You shouldn't laugh...but you can't help it.

  I can understand getting some doctrine wrong. I can understand making mistakes, even saying something will happen and it doesn't. I can understand unloving people acting unloving. I can understand having to change your understanding of things.

  But when you lie to me...that I can't take. I can forgive. I can overlook. I can agree to disagree. But I can't be lied to. I can't take someone refusing to apologize or admit that they were wrong when it is proven. I can't take someone covering over everything that they do wrong. When you lie to me and won't admit it, that's it.

  since leaving the wt, i have spoted so many false teachers from osteen to creflo dollar, but there is some great men of god who speak truth,who arnt afraid to proclaim the gospel, and who dont cater to tickling mens ears my three favorite are paul washer, steve lawson and john piper.

  you listen to the one steve lawson sermon i gave you,did you like him?

  I did. And it was so compelling that it got me to really examine some of the things I've been thinking about lately, especially as it relates to Robert Bell and his book "Love Wins". Lawson is an awesome and solid preacher.
